Can yoga help with lower back pain?

Yes.  The editorial summary of Tilbrook et al stated “Yoga can improve some outcomes in adults with chronic low back pain.”  However,  Sherman et al concluded that “Yoga classes were more effective than a self-care book, but not stretching classes, in improving function and reducing symptoms due to chronic low back pain, with benefits lasting at least several months.”

Chronic lower back pain (pain lasting longer than 4 weeks) affects more than 70% of adults over their lifetime, and is the second leading cause of physician visits (Groessl, 2014).
